BiyoLabs is a set of laboratory tools and calculators. The Android app runs this site, so this policy covers both.
The short version
You can use BiyoLabs without an account, and nothing you do is sent anywhere. Signing in turns on syncing across your devices, which means your work is stored on our servers. The AI colony-counting feature sends the photo you choose to Google for analysis. We run no analytics and no advertising.
What is stored on your device
Whether or not you sign in, your work is saved locally so it is still there next time you open the app:
- your projects — counts, plate and gel images, measurements, plate layouts, recipes, timers and ladders
- how many free AI runs you have used today
- which days you were active, for the activity view
Uninstalling the app removes all of it.
What is collected when you sign in
Signing in is optional. If you do, we collect and store:

This is held in our database, provided by Supabase, acting as our processor. It is transmitted over HTTPS and is not sold, rented or shared for advertising.
The AI colony counter
If you use “AI Count Colonies”, the plate photo you are working on is sent to Google’s Gemini API so it can locate colonies, and the coordinates come back to your device. The photo is sent for that request only, and we do not keep a separate copy of it beyond your own project. Google’s handling of API data is covered by their own terms. If you would rather no image left your device, use the built-in non-AI detection instead, which runs locally.
What we do not do
- No analytics, advertising identifiers, tracking pixels or crash-reporting SDKs
- No selling or sharing of personal data with third parties for their own purposes
- No access to your contacts, location, microphone or files. The Android app requests only the internet permission; a photo is read solely when you choose one yourself, through the system picker.
Your choices
- Use it signed out. Every tool and all 111 calculators work without an account, entirely on your device.
- Delete your data. Deleting a project removes it from your devices and from our database. To delete your whole account and everything in it, email us and we will do it.
- Export. Projects can be exported from the tools that offer it (PNG/SVG), so you are not locked in.
Children
BiyoLabs is a professional laboratory tool and is not directed at children.
Medical and veterinary disclaimer
Some calculators report published dosing ranges for animals, or the toxicity of substances pets may have eaten. These are reference aids — not veterinary advice, not a diagnosis and not a prescription. Always confirm with a qualified vet before acting on a number the app gives you. The laboratory calculators are likewise reference tools; check results before relying on them for experimental or clinical work.
